Astral Art - Our Ethos

The art you are drawn too should be as unique as you!

We are a dedicated duo who are committed to crafting exceptional and unique items. Learn more about our art but also that we are female entrepreneurs who want to present to you both unique creations but also stunning handmade paintings and pottery.

On a recent visit to London we were lucky enough to visit several immersive events, where technology meets traditional art, and were stunned by the beauty of  colours, natural patterns and the use of light.

From Van Gogh to Monet, Munch to Kandinsky, we have studied their techniques, forms and representations and incorporated many ideas into our own work.  Each piece at Astral Art is carefully crafted with precision and attention to detail. From the initial inspiration to the final brushstroke, we pour our hearts into every painting and pottery, ensuring that each creation tells its own story.

Artistic Inspiration

At Astral Art, we create four types of art.

We paint using acrylic paint, drawing inspiration from renowned artists and their use of vibrant colours. Our creations are a reflection of our passion for art and creativity.

We also use acrylic paint to produce 'pour' or 'fluid' pictures. Once we have chosen the colours, we then mix these with a  pouring medium. The liquid paints are then poured onto a prepared a canvas and we use the flow (and gravity) to move the paint  to create spontaneous pictures.

Once complete, we add specialist mediums to create cells within the paint. At this point we can also add metallic compounds.

An extension of this technique is to introduce modelling paste to add texture and a 3D effect to some of our paintings.

Ancient Art versus Modern techniques

In addition to acrylic paint, we utilize Encaustic wax, one of the oldest art mediums in the world which was first recorded in the 1st Century AD.

Although it is a difficult medium to use, combining pigmented waxes melted and applied by a hot flat iron, we have studied techniques developed by Brian Nelson, an Encaustic Artist based in South Yorkshire,

This medium fits our ethereal approach to art and it enables the creation of mystical and enchanting one-of-a- kind pictures, which are both sculptural and tactile.

New ventures

Always keen to develop our skills and produce new products, we undertook training in the use of Jesmonite.

Jesmonite is a water-based, eco-friendly composite material which can be used in a variety of ways.  Safer than traditional resins it combines strength, durability and 3D form in a range of colours and textures offering unique items for the home.

Whether it is a tray, trinket box, candle holder, miniature bird, incense burner or set of coasters, you will never see a repeat of our work.
